Testing and Assessment

If your child’s school performance, behavior or academic, is a concern, I provide psycho-educational assessments in order to clarify the reason that your child is having difficulty. I perform all your assessment needs:

Giftedness (very superior IQ) testing,

Learning Disorders (reading, writing, mathematics),

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Getting tested now will clarify the issue, and will allow for your child’s school to provide the appropriate resources to your child so that (s)he can succeed in school! Improved understanding and clarifications provided from the testing report typically reduces your child’s isolation, confusion, stress, and anxiety. Your child’s self-esteem, attitude, and performance can greatly improve with a comprehensive psycho-educational assessment.

Testing for a child is recommended if there are diagnostic questions that are best answered by administration of formal measures of learning abilities, academic achievement, attention span, and/or emotional/behavioral issues.  Typically, a parent interview is conducted initially to gather background information.  Insurance approval of services may be sought, but currently many insurance companies are not approving testing of learning-related concerns.  Families often need to be prepared to cover all testing costs out-of-pocket.  The testing part of the evaluation may last between 3 and 8 hours, and I can estimate the time required before you begin.  Testing is typically conducted over two to three sessions usually no longer than 3-hour blocks.  At the end of the process, the psychologist will provide verbal feedback to the parents, and sometimes to the child, as well as a comprehensive written report.
